Gov’t Orders Recall of More Than 700,000 Cars

The government has ordered a recall of some 732,610 cars manufactured by Hyundai, Kia and Stellantis Korea.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said on Thursday that 727,226 units of Hyundai’s Tucson SUV and Kia’s Sorento and Sportage SUVs will be recalled due to a fire risk caused by overheating in the electric heating system.

Some 4,883 units of Kia’s Soul have problems in the airbag control unit software that may lead airbags to fail to deploy in a crash, while 280 units of Kia’s Carnival have faulty seat belts in the left third-row seat.

Owners can get their cars repaired for free at the companies’ service centers from Friday.
